I went to a great event on Thursday night in the City: a blogger press conference with Kyra Sedgwick, organized by Beth from Role Mommy. You can read all about my adventures getting there and my reaction to it on my latest post at NJ Mom's Blog. I'm including some pictures from the event here. I'm excited to try out the Closer when it premieres its third season on Monday night. I'll let you know what I think. I don't usually like crime dramas, but Kyra Sedgwick was so cool...
The press conference was just the beginning of a great night though. Steve and I took advantage of our wonderful summer babysitter to have a spontaneous date night. He met me at a fantastic bbq restaurant called Hill Country. It's totally casual, with various stations throughout the place to get your food. There are no plates to be had - you eat on a tray - and if you're really fancy you can request a paper boat to eat your food in.

The meat is ordered at a butcher counter. The waiter/butchers weigh it and serve it to you on huge swaths of butcher paper. We've been there a few times, and the hands down winner is the moist brisket. It just melts in your mouth (probably due to the generous fat marbling through it). The beef ribs are also tasty - crunchy and smoky.

For me, the Hill Country mecca is the sides station. I just can't choose between fireside baked beans, corn pudding, green bean casserolle, bourbon mashed sweet potatoes, and corn bread with chipotle butter. So I didn't. We got little containers of each and had a feast.
This time around, we didn't have room for dessert (after all that brisket) - but in the past we've really enjoyed the pb&j cupcakes.
Hill Country is randomly very trendy. It's packed to the rafters with crowds of young investment bankers fresh out of fraternities. But that shouldn't scare you away - the food is delicious.
